I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Genk Research Unit, in the 'Critical reflections of and through animation' cluster. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. 2009-May-13: UP and LATE!!!

When reading an article on the UP premiere in Cannes, I noticed a piece of information I thought it was wrong: the Brazilian release date.

I went as quickly as I can type to Disney Brasil website to check it out and almost fell from my chair when I read: SEPTEMBER?!?!

What is in the heads of those executives at Disney Brasil? In times like these, a delay of a long awaited movie without a good reason (all previous Pixar movies had the same release date as in the U.S.) serves only to push the numbers of illegal downloads to a higher level.

Quite hard to understand what's in those executive's minds.

Totally agree with you. I live in Mexico and although is not the case with UP, many movies come out very late here, pushing piracy numbers to the roof

Mudando um pouco de assunto, o nome do filme em português ficou meio tosco: UP - Altas Aventuras. Um bom exemplo de como as animações são vendidas apenas para as crianças. Outro exemplo foi o nome de de Mosters vs. Aliens. Achei o filme muito ruim, mas fora isso, achei a tradução meio não pensada: Mosntros vs. Alienígenas. Soa muito melhor Mosntros vs. Aleins e o brasileiro já está acostumado com "aliens", ninguém fala "olha, um alienígena!"

Mas você sabe o motivo desse atraso? Não consigo imagenar...dublagem não pode ser, apesar de que aqui animação no cinema é só dublada, outra vez um exemplo de que animação é vendida apenas para crianças.

Espero que isso mude daqui para frente, haha.
