About

I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Genk Research Unit, in the 'Critical reflections of and through animation' cluster. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. I'm also a free software advocate, animator, rigger and I also like to code. You can see some of my works and know a bit more about me at:

Blender Animation Book

I've written a book about Rigging and Animation in Blender for Packt Publishing. You can get the files here.

Old Blog

Yes, I had a blog. Haven't updated it since 2011. Anyway, if you need something from there I have kept backwards compatibility and you can read it below.

Help making the Suzanne Awards Announcements!

The next Blender Conference will be on the next October 12 and 13. There will be held (among other cool things) the Suzanne Awards, with the best animations made with Blender this year.

As any cool event of this kind, there's an animated promo shown before the announcements of each category. And there's where we come in, because they're in a need for animators! =)

A call was made on Blenderartists forums for the people interested. Basically they need lots of animations with the Petunia robot. Doing what? Well... that's up to us. =)

The deadline is October 1st. Even if you don't have time for making the animation, now you have another cool Blender rig.

2007-Sep-17: 3 Speeds
3 Speeds

As usual, Victor Navone offers us some interesting thoughts on animation.

This time he tells about how to improve our takes by using three distinct speeds. The use of this approach helps on emphasis and contrast, making the shot a lot more interesting.

Victor Vinyals

I've been pretty busy these days, as you've probably noticed by the lack of recent updates. =D

My quick post today is to recommend the impressive demo reel of Victor Vinyals. I found his rigs really awesome!

If The Simpsons was Star Wars

Rich Cando made a parody about what would it be if The Simpsons played the Star Wars story. Very cool:
