About

I'm an Animation Professor at LUCA School of Arts, campus C-mine in Genk, Belgium. I teach at the Re:Anima Joint Master in Animation and I'm a senior researcher at the Genk Research Unit, in the 'Critical reflections of and through animation' cluster. My research interests include philosophy of Technics, power relations inscribed in and reinforced by technical objects, and decolonial perspectives in animation. Previously, I was an Animation Professor at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), in Brazil. MFA and PhD by the Graduate Program in Arts at EBA/UFMG. I'm also a free software advocate, animator, rigger and I also like to code. You can see some of my works and know a bit more about me at:

2007-Sep-06: The Band Concert
The Band Concert

I'm sorry for my last post. I'm sure that who saw the videos had terrible nightmares.

Today, in a sign of my regret, I offer you something really wonderful to redeem myself:

Watch this masterpiece

Voted third on a 1994 list of the 50 best cartoons of all time, "The Band Concert" (1939) was the first cartoon presenting Mickey in Technicolor.

The future of animation - or "I hate MoCap"

Why study animation, when we have MoCap?

MoCap is the wonderful (yes, I'm being ironic) technology that brought us The Polar Express, Monster House and Beowulf.

This time I won't list the reasons why I hate this technology. Instead I'll list some animations (1, 2, 3, 4) that will make you feel like I do when I think about MoCap.

Interview with Hayao Miyasaki

Victor Navone has pointed out on his blog about a two part video interview with Hayao Miyasaki.

Even if you're not into Japanese animation it's an invaluable resource. Go watch it! =D
